i'm watching sunny on the monitor. yes, we do have video monitors for both of our children, and i am utterly spoiled by them. but that's beside the point, because jon's gone again tonight, and sunny is rolling around and moaning in bed - every once in a while stopping to sit up and glare over the side at his room in general, i guess. he misses his daddy, the end-of-the-night man, who reads him his last two (or ten) books, and lies by him for a while as he winds down from his day.
when I lie beside him, instead of my sweet husband, he talks to me nonstop. about his room, about me, about his day... his favorite is to touch my face and tell me about it. this generates comments like, "mommy! you have eyes!" and, "mommy! you eyebrows is soft!" and the ever popular, "mommy! wear you hair DOWN, mommy!" which he says often, and drives me batty, because i much prefer my crazy hair back and out of the way. but he pulls tendrils towards him and weaves them in his fingers... "mommy, i make your hair pretty and new."
all of which is very cute and endearing, except when it is past time for him to be asleep and i have a semiconscious idea that it is all one big adorable stalling tactic. so i gently disengage myself, tell him half-truths about things i need to do, promise to check on him later, and leave.
but i am not jon, as evidenced by sunny sitting up in bed and yelling for me. repeatedly. and while i try to be firm and comforting at the same time, that doesn't stop the requests like, "put a clip in my hair, mommy."(i let him wear one of sailor's barrettes the other day. big mistake, never to be lived down.) "turn another lamp on, mommy." "i don't (pronounce doan) like this toy, mommy."
sigh.
but now he's finally drifting off, so i can do the same. the training was ok, but long, and i missed my children and my routines and my food and my nap. :) it is good to be back home in my own space with my own family.
and at least now i know that i have soft eyebrows. :)
