measuring success

i'm sitting here with jon's laptop in my lap (how appropriate), screen open to the "new post" page of my blog. it looks a little like i'm composing an e-mail. well, i am, kind of. here's my open letter to you all. ;) sorry if i spill my guts a little more than i ought.... reading back over my posts, i realized just how real i am in this space. i don't lie here; i don't know that i can. i've only always been a better writer when i'm sincerely passionate and honest about what i'm writing. and, of course, there's no reason to dissemble. if you didn't like me, you wouldn't be here anyway.
i've been thinking the last couple of days how we are really never the best at anything. that sounds stupid, but from a recovering valedictorian and perfectionist it really means something. i've come to the realization that someone will always be a better - friend. writer. housekeeper (aw, that's not hard :). wife.
mom.
the only thing i can be the absolute best at, and i know this sounds corny, is me. in other words, my uniqueness is my greatest asset. no one, no matter how smart or accomplished or amazingly wonderful, can out-Kendra me.
(jon just read this and wants me to let you know that he's the best at lots of things.)
(welcome to my life. :)
good night.

That's right, no one can out-Kendra you! And I wouldn't want to try; you are far too good at being you; I'd never do as well at it. :)

I think Jason and Jon have similar senses of humor.
