cold weather (inside) fun

we are having our own version of frozen winter here, with preschool closed today and a high of 27 degrees. (it feels like we are in chicago. only we are not in chicago, where this storm dropped almost two feet of snow. thank God for small mercies. ;)

so i can't go out - it's freezing, and sailor still has a fever. but i have three small kids in the house all day, and i refuse to allow the tv to be on more than 30 minutes in the morning.

so these are some of the fun things we did.

this is painting with sand and paint mixed together for texture.

with lots of paper.

and some glitter.

it was a big hit.

we filled bowls and muffin tins with water outside last night and let then freeze. then we played with them this morning...

lots of fun. most fun was had by sunny, who smashed the big bowl-shaped ice with a large serving spoon!

we also experimented with kosher salt on the ice, and talked about "de-icing" roads.

and made peanut butter cookies.

and now we all need a nap. ;)
