my way

"let's play candyland!" sunny told leslie. so we did, with the babies playing on the floor next to us. on his first turn, sunny was unhappy with his draw. "let's start over," he insisted.
"no," i said, "we are going to play this game the right way, or not at all."

two turns later, i caught him trying to move his gingerbread man an extra space. "but mommy, i want to play a different way!" he said.

oooh, a different way. i know that way... the one where he always wins!

so sailor won this time, even though she only wanted purple cards, and leslie trailed in third. i'll skip over the really unfortunate tantrum and card throwing (i was annoyed, but it was naptime, and he is only four), and just comment that i, too, sometimes feel like i would like to play life a different way.
you know, the way where i always win?

:o) "My way" works when you're only playing with one adult, but doesn't work so well when there are other kids to play with.... reminds me of when I was working with kids as a therapist--ugh!
