preschool envy

because our preschool is in a relatively affluent area, and because we are a very part-time program, many of the moms at our school don't work.
and the last couple of mornings, i've tried to count how many of them drop their kids off in the morning wearing workout clothes, ostentatiously on their way to the gym.
probably fully half.
and not just any workout clothes, either. cute, expensive, butt-hugging workout clothes, complementing their lithe figures and $200 haircuts. (i am not making this up. one of our moms last year used to compete in body sculpting competitions...)
it's enough to make any self respecting preschool teacher want to drool with envy. or shrink inside her one-size-fits-all preschool t-shirt.
kristi, our new director, was laughing about how one of the moms was trying to describe another mom to her. "you know, she's that tall, pretty brunette." kristi laughed out loud. "well," she said, "that narrows it down by half."
i'm telling you, it's self-esteem suicide around there at about 9 am.
ah, well. i love my preschool job, my kids, my life. i like our preschool parents pretty well, too.
i might like them better if they waited to get changed at the gym, though. :)
