jon and i went out on friday night.
don't laugh, now don't laugh...
he took me to see the smothers brothers.
you laughed, didn't you.
or maybe you don't know who they are?
a comedy duo popular around the era of the vietnam war. jon had (has!) a couple of their comedy albums when he was growing up, and got me hooked on some of our long car rides.
so when i heard they were performing with the austin symphony orchestra, i mentioned it to jon.
and he got tickets.
and we lined up our two babysitters.
and everyone i told, in my excited voice, just looked at me blankly. or smirked a little. or, like my neighbor, said, "oh, yeah, that sounds like something my mom would like."
we had a really great time. in spite of the fact that we mistook sam bass hall for the long center (they are ten minutes apart, on opposite sides of the river), and instead of being 20 minutes early, came running in as the lights were flickering -
and in spite of the fact that the median age in the large, beautiful, sold-out theater had to have been over sixty-
the show was truly funny - clean and funny - funny without relying on crude jokes, or making fun of other people - and we both laughed harder than we had in a long time.
and i just kept thinking: i don't care if people think we're crazy. i don't care if everyone in here is older than my parents. this is FUN!
it was. :)
