little bo peep

last night we pulled into chili's to-go part of their parking lot and made a hard turn into a parking space. we heard a very odd noise as we hit the hardest part of the turn - a kind of long groaning sound. jon and i looked at each other in alarm. "that didn't sound good," i said.
as i got out of the car to go in and pick up our food (we love using our chili's gift cards on to-go orders. who in their right mind goes to a sit-down restaurant with a very active toddler and a very active 11-month-old?), i heard the noise again. i looked back over my shoulder and started to laugh. in the bed of the pickup truck parked behind us was a very large, very loud sheep in a cage. he was bleating with all of his might. "BAAAA! BAAA!"
while i went in to get the food, jon got the kids out of the car to see the sheep. not only was it very loud, but it was wearing a kind of fuzzy jacket. when i came back out of chilis, sailor was outside of the car in jon's arms staring at the sheep. sunny was hiding in the front seat of the car. "BAAA! BAAA!"
"i don't like that sheep," said my son plaintively. "it LOUD."

so today while sailor was napping sunny and i played legos. "let's build a cave," he said excitedly. "ok," i said. "a cave."
"let's build a CAVE, mommy."
"ok, sunny. we'll build a CAVE."
"no, mommy. BAAAAA!"
"oh. a CAGE."
"yes. a cage. for the sheep. BAAAA!"
