if there's one thing i'm learning on this journey -
-that doesn't sound right. truthfully, i'm learning a lot of different things on this journey. this journey is ABOUT learning, i think, even more so than my daily life was before kids.
but one of the things i'm figuring out (slowly, like i figure everything out) is not to let my bad days throw me for a loop.
some days are just rotten. i wake up in a bad mood, or something just happens to throw me off, and i spend the rest of the day fighting a kind of pervasive gloominess.
or specific things happen. like tuesday, when i had some kind of intestinal bug and jon's car broke down at school and i almost passed out at heb. and the day seemed thoroughly destroyed.
so usually i would spend these terrible (or just kind of poor) days thinking about how awful my life is.
now, instead, i try to remember that there are good days, too. and not just good days, but great days, like saturday when we went to the splash park and the pool, or jon's birthday when sunny made a cake and we got chinese take-out for dinner.
and the good days are just as plentiful, if not more plentiful, than the bad ones.
and even on the bad days, there are glimmers of joy. like when jon finally got home on tuesday and we hugged long and hard and laughed, because after the stress of illness and car trouble and naggling at each other unkindly over the phone, we were so glad and relieved to be together and with our own sweet kids in our own sweet world.
i am learning to be thankful for the good, and dwell less on the bad.
maybe the next step is to be thankful for the bad, as well....
