summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime

it feels like summer is here.
for one thing, it's hot. really hot, i mean, in that special austin way that mixes sun and warmth and high humidity in a particularly uncomfortable combination. i still prefer it to the desert heat, though, which feels like nothing so much as standing under an oven broiler (with often similar results).
for another thing, jon has been home for three days and nights running. this is highly unusual during the school year, and i think the other three of us are in a bit of shock. the kids, of course, are in high heaven, and sailor loves nothing more than for dada to hold her and kiss her and play with her (which, with jon, involves reading books, swinging on the swing, and, today, eating cat food. he claims it only happened once).
also, we've being doing fun summery things, like going to the pool. thank God, this year, sunny likes the pool. he no longer shrinks from the water, but will splash and jump in the baby pool, and kick his legs in the "big pool." sailor is not as enthusiastic, but likes to crawl around and splash in the puddles. she even took several independent steps in the baby pool from jon to me. her face just lights up and she laughs as she toddles (still straight legged - jon says, "bend your knees!") between us. of course, when she tries it out of the water, she just frowns at us and sits down.
but oh, the joy of the sunshine, the later nights, the attendant spouse. ;) i realized how wonderful it is to have a second set of hands when i was able to go to the bathroom today by myself.
ahh, summer. unfortunately, we still have a couple of busy weeks left before we can truly fall into a summer pattern.
and i have all kinds of lists in my head. like: potty train sunny. i've put it off for far too long. and really clean out the car, and the closet, and the garage (tho that will have to wait until after the garage sale in a couple of weeks). cook healthy food. exercise every day. and altogether be a neater, nicer, healthier, and more organized person.
then again, maybe i'll just soak up the sun. ;)
