in the way he should go

sunny had a mothers' day tea in his classroom for us moms this morning. it was simple and sweet. and while i don't usually get sappy about motherhood, what he wrote (dictated) in his card made me a little weepy.

"my mom is special because.... she helps me make good choices."

it may not seem like a big deal, except that of all my children (so far), he is the one who pushes boundaries the most. who spends time in time out. who can sometimes be mean just because he's grumpy - and he can be grumpy a lot.

so we spend time talking about good choices. and bad choices, and how to tell them apart, and why it's important to try your hardest to be the best person you can be.

so one of my dearest wishes for him is to know how to make good choices. so that when i'm not there, looking over his shoulder, he can be a man of character - and choose wisely.

oh, sunny, i'm so glad i help you make good choices. it's one of the things i try hardest to do.

and i guess you know that, too.
