i am constantly amazed at how many people are absolutely fascinated by what we will name this little girl still squirming inside me. (both she and sailor are/were remarkably active in the womb. i laughed when the doctor talked to me about counting her movements - i think she rarely sleeps. and she is pretty crowded.)
i have gotten lists of names from jon's students, both his and my coworkers, youth group kids, and neighbors. not to mention relatives and friends. when my girls at work gave me a surprise baby shower yesterday morning, they included a large poster board full of "s" names for me to peruse - including shaniqua and shanaynay.
those who know us best have stayed pretty far away from the name game this time around. we are NOT fun to play with. we have excuses and negatives for everything you offer. i usually just try to be tactful and say, "wow, that's a nice name!"
jon is being pretty stubborn this time around, too. the only two names he has come up with i really don't like, and he insists that everything i like is just a rehash of ideas for sailor's name.
sorry, but it IS another girl. and i did lots of research and agonizing last time around, too. no stone left unturned.
here are some of the more interesting and unique suggestions we've been given (this is not MY list, mind - just a sampling for your general amusement- we may or may not be considering any of these):
sage
silver
star
skye
sunday
somerset
sicily
seaforth
seuss (it was green eggs and ham last week at school all week - seuss's birthday)
sloane (i have a cousin by this name)
sierra
sienna
sabbath
storm/stormy (this makes me nervous)
(people are pretty creative. and, as i said, very interested. i think that if we named her "susan" there would be an outcry.)
