when you meet sailor for the first time, she probably won't talk to you at all. she may hide her face against my shoulder, and give you coy glances to see if you are paying attention. but when she gets to know you - when she REALLY gets to know you - she can babble like a little brook. there are nonsense words mixed in with the real words - she probably has close to 100 real words, but most of her talk is still sweet and mysterious.
her newest favorite thing to do involves her bedtime routine. there's not much of one, really - just a couple of books in her rocking chair, and then the same lullaby my mom used to sing to me. amazingly, regardless of how wound up she was when we started, halfway through the second book she'll start to yawn and rub her eyes!
but sailor has decided that she can read the books - and sing the songs - right along with me. it's all i can do to keep from laughing out loud. i HAVE to find a way to covertly video it - it's so terribly funny. it goes something like this:
i'll sing, "baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool,"
and sailor will sing, at the same time, "baa, baa, SEEP, any WOE,"
me:"yes, sir, yes, sir, three bags full,"
"ess, rrrrrr, tee, FOE,"
even when she gets lost in the middle, she always recovers for the final syllable - at the top of her lungs.
it may not be the quietest or calmest of bedtimes, but man is it the cutest. :)
