an eye for an eye

i was taking care the four-year-old daughter of a friend this morning, in addition to my own brood. we played at our house for a while, then went to chick-fil-a for lunch. while everyone was playing in the play area, they apparently came across two kids who were acting "mean."

these "mean kids" were discussed throughout lunch, and the conversation moved from what had been done TO them to how they could retaliate - call them not nice names, for instance. (because this involved a three, four, and five year old, the worst name they came up with was "cupcake-head.")

i was amused, but also a little disturbed, by the direction the conversation was headed. i decided to take action.

"so, guys," i said, "do you know what God wants us to do when someone is mean to us?"

there was a longish pause while they all considered this question. then our little friend piped up, in total seriousness.

"i know!" she said. "hit them!!"
