this week jon has had his ap calculus conference/training down by the university every day. for us, that involves him leaving the house at around 6 (to ride the bus or drive) and not coming home until after 7. and tonight, because of youth group and the open gym he runs, that means not coming home at all. he's just going to sleep on the sofa at school after open gym rather than get home at 2am and have to leave again four hours later.
so this is good training for me for when soccer and inservice start, on monday, august 4. i hadn't realized how spoiled i'd gotten just by having him at home periodically during the day - even if he has spent a lot of the summer building and on projects... just the additional adult presence makes a big difference.
i'm trying to muster up a positive attitude, but really, it's not easy. the only thing that makes it bearable is the knowledge that this fall will be infinitely easier than last fall - having a three year old and a seventeen month old is so different from having a five month old and a barely-two year old. i remember trying to give sunny his bath and put him down while sailor screamed and screamed... not pleasant times for any of us.
so this fall i'm going to plan some fun things for the three of us... trips to the park, ice cream at sonic, playing in the sprinklers while the weather lasts... and focus on enjoying my children and their love of life.
hopefully some of their boundless energy and enthusiasm will rub off on me. ;)
