sometimes between pregnancies and nursing, it feels like i've been constantly hormonal for the last four and a half years. i especially notice it when i'm tired and/or have externally stressful events going on. all of my natural tendencies - to panic :) - kick into high gear.
and there is always this little voice in the back of my head - the calm, rational voice - which remains apart from the hormonal harpy.
it says things like,
"you should really calm down about this. it's not a big deal."
and
"wow, that was a really mean comment."
and
"you know you don't mean that. it's just your hormones."
and
"man, you really sound crazily overreactive."
i hear that still little voice when i'm crying over nothing, yelling at jon (over nothing), or sniping at the kids (over nothing.) and while i know it speaks the honest rational truth, in the heat of the moment i only have one thing to say to my sweet, patient, calm, non-hormonal voice:
SHUT UP!!
:) :) ah, one day i will not be a baby- or milk- making machine, and i will (hopefully) regain my even keel. (except for those pre, during, and post PMS days... :)
